Recently, a study published in the International Journal of Cancer Letters revealed the researchers from the Norris Cotton Cancer Center discovered the mechanism of fireflies glow, that mechanism of bioluminescence may be used to study tumor response to therapy. In this study , the researcher Gimi said by animal model carrying multiple tumor to perform studies, they have created a new platform, which can efficiently carry out cancer research experiments on the basis of the small animal models; and the another benefit of multiple tumors animal model is that it can provide consistency in the interpretation of the study results. Bioluminescence plays an important role in the study of small animals , and the technology has been widely used to study tumor model, while the multiple tumor research method can be used for high-throughput screening of anti-cancer drugs or therapies.
In this study, researchers utilized dynamic bioluminescence imaging to study the effect of hemangioma broken preparations, namely the use of CA4P preparation to affect subcutaneous 9L brain tumor grafts , a single dose of CA4P quickly and temporarily induce the suppression of angiogenesis tumor, and rapid light emission and renewable reduction may achieve the same effect; vascular system within 24 hours following resuscitation showed obvious signs of recovery, but the behavior of multiple tumors is similar with it . The researchers indicated that the benefits of the use of bioluminescent lies in its relatively low price, and there is no background signal , and they can also utilize other imaging modalities to validate these results; in the latter studies , the researchers will adopt combined methods, namely in a single animal model organism , inject the all tumors with same systemic vascular disturbance agent and then perform a secondary therapy, topical therapy and individual therapy to verify the efficacy of anti-tumor in interfere agents . Finally , the researchers concluded that their study would contribute to the development of novel anti- cancer therapy , accelerating the research and development of novel drugs .
